Chihuahua Dreams: Curt Sauei

Curt Sauei is one of my favorite young designers. Despite the fact he works in the field of motion graphics; his boards and concepts stand alone as works of art. He is still in his infant stages, but his work is already at a far higher caliber than most at his level. His designs are stunningly vibrant, fresh, and defy the all too alluring pitfall of imitation. He has quickly made a career for himself straight out of school; he is currently working at MTV in Times Square- and I caught up with him for a quick interview, attempting to provide some insight and inspiration for other young, aspiring designers. Random Diggables - BEST.MUSIC.VIDEO.EVAR - April 29, 2011

BEST.MUSIC.VIDEO.EVAR

What's up party people? This is just another installment of Random Diggables.  My weekly post about stuff I’m diggin’ and want to share with you.  This post has been a little more difficult to write than the others, because I just can't stop a shufflin'.  That's right.  This week I'm diggin' what could arguably be the best music video ever made.  The beat, the song, the video... I'M DIGGIN.  If this video doesn't move you, I don't know what will. What this group does for music videos is what Top Gun did for Fighter Pilots.  BOOM. That just happened.

Keep a shuffalin y'all!  I'm out to see if I can find a giant robot box head and gold chains.  I think I just found my new wardrobe.

Peace out Party Rockers!

Gangsta Rap Thursday - April 28,2011

What does Gangsta Rap Thursday have to do with reality television? Not much. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of reality television. C'mon, that stuff is about as for from reality as you can get. Especially the music shows, seriously do we need any more shows about people trying to showcase their vocal talents, granted there's a lot of talent out there that deserves to be showcased, but these shows are annoying. On a weekly basis we can tune in the television to hear someone share with a show host, "Music is my life, I don't know what I'd do without music, I just have to perform." Spare me. Here's what you can do, realize it's a business more than an art when you get to the professional ranks, the reality show is proof of that. They're just exploiting you kid, they either want to profit and succeed from your talent, or humiliate you and profit from your embarrassment, either way you lose and they're rolling in it. On top of that, the low budget format of these reality shows and the audience they draw, is killing a lot of good television. C'mon let's give the writers some love, bring back some good shows. I'm not talking crazy remakes like CHIP's 99, let's remake great shows like BJ and The Bear.

I do have a confession, there is a reality show that I like, The Celebrity Apprentice. And as the universe takes joy in irony, one of my favorite contestants this season is, of all things, a musician. Yeah, go figure, I'm a fan of a musician on reality TV. This is where reality television and Gangsta Rap Thursday collide. I'm talking about Lil Jon. Let's go.

Grand "Collaboration" via HUSH

Hello! I'm @chimotiondesign and I'm going to be bringing you some fun stuff here on the rampant blog...
Check out this quirky little character animation developed by HUSH.
It's mostly built out of simple shapes, but infuses a load of personality into what might be considered a pretty left-brain pitch for some new social networking software. They call it an "anti-tech approach"…which seems to be the best way to make you forget they're selling software, ahh nice work.

Gangsta Rap Thursday - April 21, 2010

I'm loving the spring. Seriously, the nice weather is good for my soul. Last week on Gangsta Rap Thursday, it was a block party. A good time outside, good music, lots of fun and an occasional zombie apocalypse. The thing is, I don't want the party to stop. And it's not going to. Why, might you ask? Because it's in my bones, everyday I'm shufflin'. It's Party Rock.

Gangsta Rap Thursday – April 14, 2011

Where does this spring leave us now? The weather is finally warming up, seriously folks, sunshine is a good thing. I just want to go outside and spend the day out in the sun, maybe grill up some food, have some music playing and enjoy being with the people around me. Sounds like a block party to me. That gets me thinking, a block party wouldn't be a block party without some hip-hop, but come on now, today's artists are good and all, they just don't give off the same vibe as the old school. And if we're going old school, why don't we go back to where it all began. Ladies and gentlemen, sheep herders and goat stealers, young and old, I present to you the Grandfather. Afrika Bambaataa.

NAB 2011 - Where my cameras at?

As a freelance video professional and gear aficionado, NAB has always been a circled date on my calendar.  This year, with a slew of new cameras coming out, it is proving to be no exception.  Although the horribly tragic events of Japan's recent earthquake have delayed key technology exports, we are on the brink of another camera revolution; A leaner, meaner, greener one! Sure the EPIC is one such example, but looking at the recent offerings by Sony (NEX-FS100, PMWF3k) there are great reasons to assume Panasonic and Canon will not sit quietly.  After talking with a Panasonic rep a few weeks ago, there should be a P2 based offering similar to the AF-100. Canon has been rumored to announce an update to the 5dmkII, with a potential new codec in tow. Of course, all these questions and more, will be answered in a few short days...... Run Rampant.
